I wrote a 6.0 hack which enables moderator privileges to be (globally) restricted. It adds the following configuration parameters:

$config['mod_editforum'] - allow moderators to edit forums
$config['mod_ban'] - allow moderators to ban a user or IP
$config['mod_unban'] - allow moderators to unban a user or IP
$config['mod_showallstats'] - allow moderators to view stats for all forums, including those not readable by the moderator

Normally, moderators have all these privileges. The hack disables them by default, but allows them to be individually enabled by setting the above variables.

Is there interest in my publishing this hack? If so, are there guidelines, or a good example to follow?

Yes please! I've just been searching these forums for any posts on how to restrict my moderators.

None of them are "computer savvy" and I do NOT want them able to muck around with stylesheets, board settings, or user settings. All I want my moderators to do is moderate posts, nothing else.

Sounds a good idea - it would also be useful to be able to extend this to other custom hacks - for example a tie up with the 'Change Username Hack', which I have extended to all moderators - this would be a handy one to give out to selected moderators.

That makes sense. And I'm interested in the change-username hack also.

But I'm not sure how to handle the logistics of that. How would you suggest we go about doing that?

In the meantime, I think I'll upload my hack as a "beta" to get feedback on it.
